This recently happened to me. Paypal has been less than helpful in helping with my cases. I feel your pain. I am a 22 year veteran of Paypal, I must have sent 6 figures through this platform over the years. To be treated like this is deplorable. Here's what happened to me: On dec 2, someone stole my Paypal credentials and used them to open 6 Ebay accounts and go on a $11,000 shopping spree in the space of a few minutes. Ebay's system allowed it to happen, and Paypal's system gladly abliged to pay for all of the merchandise without throwing a single fraud flag on either platform. I responded to the fraudulent charges to paypal within 5 minutes and Ebay within 10 minutes, changed passwords, locked down my account. Paypal told me they would open unauthorized use disputes and assured me there is nothing to worry about. 6 cases were opened. They were denied 8 hours later, with a rather insulting reason given: we’ve determined there was no unauthorized use. Based on our review, we found this transaction is consistent with your PayPal payment history . I called and complained, so they reopened the cases to "item not received" cases. "Dont worry, you will get a refund now" the nice foreign fellow assured me. (I have recordings of all of the BS they fed me) A day later, those were denied. I called again, appealed the cases, they were re-opened but closed after a day. I have been doing this every day since the 2nd, trying to keep the cases open so they dont send to collections, but they did that yesterday. "Don't worry about the collections company, just ignore it" the fellow assured me. I involved the police on dec 5 when Paypal sent me tracking info for the packages to local addresses. The detective assigned to my case went to the address and uncovered an operation where my packages and a whole lot more from other victims were piling up in this guy's living room. He had been given a "work at home job" on Indeed as a package inspector. He was told to open and inspect, then put a new shipping label and ship the packages to Africa. So at this point, the cops have the fraudulent purchases (gaming laptops). They have subpoena'd Paypal for ip addresses and other info. The Postal Inspector is now involved. Every day I call Paypal to reopen cases and remind them that there is an open investigation involving them, but they keep denying the cases. So at this point, Paypal is complicit in facilitating a scam, is aware of the investigation, but is denying my cases and already sent to collections despite being aware of all of this. I was a 22 year customer of paypal. No longer. They have made me so angry and caused me so much grief that I will share my story on every platform I can find. Contacting the news soon if I end up having to pay for this or if my credit gets ruined. Maybe public embarrassment will make them treat their customers like humans. Thanks for listening.
