I purchased a Brilcon induction cook top from an eBay seller in Victoria: ElectroDirect. The ad showed a 2 year guarantee. The item failed after two months, and the seller has refused to honor the warranty. His reasons are manifestly bogus. He claimed that I did not use a licensed electrician, but I did and I have supplied a copy of his licence. He claimed that I did not get a certificate of electrical safety from my electrician. I did do that but it was for my entire new kitchen of which the cook top was a part. He claimed that my electrician supplied only a 32 Amp circuit breaker rather that the 45 Amp one that they recommend. This certainly could not have caused the unit to blow short circuit when using only one burner as it did, and I was grateful for the extra protection afforded by the lower amperage breaker. I have used Consumer Affairs to communicate with the seller on my behalf, but Electrodirect repeats these bogus excuses and refuses to do anything. Can I expect any relief from the PayPal guarantee? Since negotiations with this recalcitrant seller have taken 7 months so far I am unable to start a dispute through eBay because the time for that has expired. I am a very big user of eBay and Paypal, and I think this is a systemic problem with rogue sellers, so I hope you can help me.
