Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them! Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

PayPal needs to be much more clear on their description of words. For example, when they talk about "you", is that the buyer or the seller. Also, where in the **bleep** is the word "placed" anywhere in their glossary! It's not! Get with the program PayPal and start addressing these issues because alot of people are writing about the same thing, especially about "refunds" and "temp hold". Apparently they aren't in a hurry to address these.

Why can't they just shoot straight!!!!!! I have 100% percent rating. Take all the money they are with holding and the interest they are getting. Great way to increase profits with 0 investing. Paypal wants the seller to go by a code of conduct but paypal just does whatever in **bleep** they want to do and **bleep** the seller. So it looks like it's time to find another selling engine. I pay fast and expect to get paid fast. Paypal are thieves and should be investigated for there discriminatory practices

I totally agree that this is wrong. Especially since this was supposed to be a way to receive instant, safe payments, now I believe they are probably making interest on our money. The other thing that bothers me is that the buyer is paying for shipping costs (which technically is THEIR money not the sellers) and if you are new to this game or lack paypal funds then you cannot ship in a timely manner to them, which in turns creates unhappy customers and unhappy sellers. It's too bad Ebay could not come up with another reasonable solution and get rid of PayPal. Sorry PayPal but you blew it.

A new surprise every day with paypal. They may not even release your funds after 21 days because they are so unorganized, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. And in fact, the stupid employees they hire can't learn their job so nothing gets done. Did you see the banner they put up on their site? It reads "Like any good friend - PayPal can keep a secret". No kidding!!!! What other secrets are they keeping from us sellers. Good luck getting your money. Even if you do get a positive rating from a buyer, paypal has other devices to keep your money. I never use them to pay a bill because I cannot trust that they will do it. Then I get a late notice that the bill has not been paid. This company is totally **bleep**ed up !!!!

And always, always, check your Paypal account and/or bank statement to make sure purchases and payments are not duplicated and doublecharged. Of course, you are never credited twice - you simply have to wait forever.

To mummachick & all the new posters to this discussion board:
Look here people. That is why so many of us past posters have said "To H**L" with PayPal and signed up with other money transfer systems like Google Checkout, Paymate (although I think they're an offshoot of PayPal), and now Moneybookers. Also, many people like myself have closed their eBay stores and set up shop on other selling sites. They may not be as large as eBay in drawing shopping traffic, but who needs all that aggrevation?? Business for me is very stagnant right now so I really can't advise on whether or not these systems are good. But I guess they're still worth a try.
This discussion topic is over a year old. Don't you think PayPal hasn't been monitoring these comments? And as I've said many, many times in previous posts that eBay is a MULTIBILLION DOLLAR corporation that made its money right at the dawn of the online shopping frenzy. And they turned around and bought PayPay for a billion dollars back in '02. I still read these posts from time to time as you all can see, but it's up to you if you all want to keep going through this nonsense.

Paypal seems to slap 21 day funds holds on accounts with no reason or rationale. Case in point:
1. Last week, I got a Paypal e-mail saying my 21-day funds hold had been terminated and money would be available immediately.
2. I sold a collectible outside of E-Bay for the first time using paypal and set up a link to an invoicing service. I did a test invoice and sent money to Paypal.
3. The next thing I know, the 21 day funds hold is re-instated.
This seems just capricious and crazy. And as many have said there is no REAL way to get help from Paypal with your account. Paypal is the quintessential online... "We are so convenient and essential that we don't have to respond to our users" application. I would like to see paypay enforse its policies in some rational predictable manner not by some poorly thought out "flag" being raised in a computer program.

I just recently signed up for paypal, and it has already **bleep**ed me over 2 times.
First situation - They say on the site you are allowed to use your pending balance to pay shipping costs. That is 100% a lie. They take money out of your bank account without telling you to pay the shipping costs! This causes me to overdraft at my bank. I called customer support about this and got a lady who i couldn't even understand and she didn't help the problem at all.
Second situation - They say for new users you get your money held for the first 21 days.... Okay no big deal... Uhh wait... whats this?
They hold your money for 21 days for EACH ITEM you sell, WHEN YOU SELL IT!! That means the item I sold aweek ago still has 14 days left until I get my money, and the item I sell today still has 21 full days until I get the money.
Paypal is so shady and the customer service **bleep**! If there was another online option I would switch to it in a heart beat.
with all of this being said, can anyone tell me how long I have to put up with this waiting 21 days to get my money thing? I'm tired of waiting for the money thats mine when I have 6 positive feedbacks already in the first week.

I had the exact same experience. I'm new to this as well and had the overdraft thing happen when they took shipping from my bank account instead of the held funds. I tried calling too, got someone who I could barely understand and didn't help either... just talking in circles until I just gave up, thinking I must not understand something... but now I know it's not me and I'm not alone. In the FAQ's it says that you can use held funds for shipping. No you can't! I just need to sell a few things to get by and I end up even further in the hole.
