Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them! Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

I was selling my coin collection one piece at a time to supplement my unemployment. When I first started selling, they weren't taking anything out...then BAM, there it was. I can't afford the S&H out of my pocket. Paypal has ways to get your cash faster. How can I sell a silver dime for a dollar and send it priority mail.? No one's going to pay that much S&H for a dollar item. If the buyer sends a positive feedback. Some people don't send feedback. Some people leave feedback two months after they buy.
I can't afford to put food on my table, why should I have to put food on paypal's table? I can't do this anymore. I had to sell my entire coin collection to a local dealer at a substantial loss.

This is one big scam. Ebay requires Paypal (no money orders or cash), now they hold YOUR money for 21 days even with 100% ratings. What a great idea for them to make money on interest and make their customers angry. I would like to see the government get in on this garbage.

This is not a way to have businesses work with Paypal. They can effectively put a small business out of business and that is what they have been doing with these long term holds. All they need to do to cure the problem is contact the buyer to confirm the sale, and they won't do that!

You are correct on all points. They will never invest in labor intense processes. THey have thing automated and GOD help us if anything fall off the cyber conveyor belt. They are no different than US oil companies. First, I live in Florida. Second I favor drilling (Drilling with NASA type back up for mishaps).
The point is: as long as Oil companies can push paper and make billions, why bother to invest in machinery and personnel, from a money and hassle standpoint. PAY PAL simply sets the domino program to react to each stage and move to the next. Regarding the spill, we had astronauts die in Challenger and Apollo, we had thousands die in car crashes, etc. Did we just throw our hands up and quit?
NO, we improved the situation, cars for instance with air bags, collision absorption chassis, etc. But I digress. Pay Pal is alienating the very people that have made them the greedy (children without fathers) that they are ,and have given them the leeway to extort us further. I expect that they will eventually create a "club" that reduces the very fees that they have increased. Of course, the "club" will require an annual fee as well.
Stay after them, EVERYONE. This won't bring world peace BUT where do you draw a line in the sand and say no more?

Let's just say that I understand the 21 day hold, which I do not, but let's just say I do. If this were applied to just the accounts that fall into the listed situations where a 21 day hold may be issued, that would be one thing. However, it appears that it is actually just being arbitrarily applied in some whimsical fashion. I've seen numerous sellers with exemplary selling records, selling low-risk items having this hold put on them. If the hold were being used correctly, this shouldn't happen, right? No wonder these sellers are irate, they've worked hard to get their reputations where they are. Something seems broken here. Paypal keeps listing how to avoid the hold but I'm seeing sellers who are doing everything right still getting it applied.
The absolute worst and badly thought out part of this policy is shipping cost. The buyer pays for the shipping, however the seller is not allowed to use that money for shipping. How does that make sense? Does Paypal just assume everyone has that money in hand? If so, they would be sorely mistaken. Or maybe they know and just don't really care about the small sellers out there. After all, they don't make nearly as much money from them as the bigger sellers. But then we are back to the fact that many of those sellers are getting holds put on their funds as well. So, all in all, not a great way to do business.
Boycotts are a nice idea, in theory. However, they rarely work in practice. But there are alternatives. If you need to sell on eBay, try not accepting Paypal. Accept money orders, personal checks or check out one of the up and coming sites that are waiting to give Paypal a run for it's money. If enough people do this, they will eventually feel the sting. Just an idea.
I started on eBay way back in 2003. I loved it. But due to a separation, I had stop, then just recently got back into it. To my surprise, the once user friendly eBay and Paypal have changed. The fees are ridiculous, and this new policy is a joke. It doesn't really protect anyone any more than their previous setup. It's too bad, I was looking forward to using them again.

I totally agree. A 60 day hold with perfect records is absurb. I and loads of friends would like to make our businesses larger. Seems to a damper on that. I now use my debit card as much as possible. Do not have any incentive to leave more money there.

I used to leave a few thousand dollars in the account and use both a PayPal Debit and Plus credit card.. Not anymore. I canceled both cards and immediately withdraw the money as soon as it is available.

I keep hearing that ebay owns paypal. If so, it will not take ebay long to loose it!
I have always been very happy with the ebay part. Everyone has always been helpful, polite, etc. If ebay does own paypal, they need to fire whoever's in charge and disconnect themselves before their reputation is so bad that it cannot be fixed. After all, none's indespensible. I know these are a intelligent young people who own & run ebay. They have got to be smarter than this. If there are so may of us unhappy with paypal, just think about all the others who do not know this site exists and all those who are afraid to speak up. It will catch on like wild fire. When you mess around with peoples money, all H comes out!
Poor ebay, everytime they call or send a survey, I go on and on about paypal & my bad experience.
Boy after reading some of those advocates or whoever they are with paypal, I was shocked by their rudess & arrogance.
Hope my spelling is correct. So tired I can hardly see.
