Must I have a credit card to complete my account set-up?

I have a linked debit card and in the past I have linked bank accounts, however I still get a notification every time I log in about linking a credit card - is this absolutely necessary to be able to use PayPal?

If your unable to login into your PayPal account do reach us via phone and kindly select "Call us as Guest".

Welcome and thank your for posting your concern.
 

We understand that you want to know that the credit card is mandatory to link to your PayPal account to use it's services. It is not necessary to link a credit card to your PayPal account. The notification you see about linking a credit card is to encourage you to add another payment method. If you want you can add your credit card or you can ignore the notification.

I HAD three other payment methods registered. But I kept getting emails that my account would be limited unless I completed my account set-up by paying attention to the notifications. I AM ignoring the notification about linking a credit card, cos I don't want to link a credit card, but by doing so, it seems I cannot finish setting up my account, not that it matters much cos my account has been limited now so its useless anyway.
