Hey PayPal,
Some time ago last year you have banned my friend's account, ha cannot even post here, that's why I'm writing. This was a punishment, a life-sentence ban for violating your rules:
He sold his used e-cigarette and got paid thru PayPal for it.
We got it, your rules prohibit selling any tobacco and related products, it includes e-cigarettes although it is a widely recognized healthier alternative to smoking. He was not aware of this rule, neither was me, I admit, I have not read you 452 pages or whatever long rulebook, I think very few of your customers did. We are just normal, law abiding citizens of our countries, using, buying, selling e-cigarettes is not a crime in our countries. He thought it is enough to abide the law and be honest, he did this terrible violation in good faith.
Now in the the wake of this terrible war in Ukraine, we both read about your ban of Russian customers, which we welcome and hope this and all the other sanctions will help to bring that Putin's regime down sooner and you will soon be able to restore your services in Russia under a new, democratic government. We really appreciate your commitment and sacrifice for humanity.
...but there was a strange thought we both had immediately when we heard these news, I even joked with my friend, he got the same punishment from you as the mass-murderer Putin.
What a sick logic is it?
Could you please reconsider my friend's sentence or another alternative would be to punish Putin harder, I don't know..... but definitely he doesn't want to sit in the same virtual prison cell with Putin for selling a damn e-cigarette.
regards,
Laszlo

More than a year has passed since I asked my question:
which was, in a sentence:
Why PayPal's punishment had to be so severe, and does the community think this was fair?
in a year and a half, we've learned everything from my commenting style, how many questions I can ask, who I should be polite to, to the page number of the rules, and what is the sense to ask any questions after the fact. ...only my simple question remains unanswered.
One more interesting fact, in the meantime I keep seeing online casinos on German TV advertising Paypal payment options.
As I recall, gambling is about in the top five on the banned list, right after guns and drugs. How is that?
in this light: It is clearly written the 'Rules' that I can't organize a horse race with PayPal, ok. But nobody has replied in a year and a half if I can do rabbit racing. or are those almighty rules not so clear or not for all after all?

Omg! I had NO idea PayPal had such a dictatorial rule over tobacco products. And it's not even a "tobacco product". I am sorry for your friend and happy you posted this to make all of us aware if we didn't already know, like you and myself.

Hi. I am new to affiliate marketing and just about every company I try to work for uses paypal to pay its affiliates and I was banned for life, permanetly, for having a cbd white label business. I was just trying this out and once paypal informed me of the discrepency I immediatly unconnected from the company, requested my money be returned from them and informed paypal that I had cut all ties to the company and would be more dilgent in the future and be sure to abide by all their rules and pleaded with them to not cancel my account. i was informed that the decision was final and would not even consider a different outcome for me. i am only probably able to write this because they keep my account open to be sure to clear up any outstanding charges. I had the same issue with stripe however they kindly informed me that they will not permantly ban me since i took immediate action to remedy the problem. I'm just replying to this feed because it is really unfair and harsh to be banned without given a second chance. Also, I tried to talk to someone about it and was informed there was no one could talk to that it was final and thats that......I'm so beside myself about this and feel that this has been a great injustice to me. Anyway, I would suggest to paypal to maybe think about starting a onetime forgiveness program to those individuals they banned who have learned a valuable lesson. I bet they could get alot of new,old customers back who would be greatful for the forgiveness and would uphold he rules maybe better than anyone. 🙂 I like paypal even if they did ban me and I would love a second chance and to be forgiven for my ignorance in not reading everthing that i should have. Valuable lesson learned for sure. Thank you for reading my post.

We (our countries) need perhaps a new legislation to stop any private company (regardless if it is the huge Wayne Enterprises or just Mom-and-Pop LLC) who operate as they wish with their own, arbitrary rules and penalties from being police officers, prosecutors, courts, jury, corrections officers, parole boards and gods all in one.
Just leave it to the state to impose penalties on people.
