Transfer fees

I received a transfer of £30 from a UK source, not a sale, not eBay, just a straight transfer, but I have been charged £1.22 for this making the actual amount received £28.78. I recveived another £30 transfer from someone else and that didn't incurr a charge?

I thought transfers between accounts were free, or have I missed something?

Depends  >>

if the ''transfer'' of money is sent using the goods / services option then paypal will see you as a seller and you get charged a fee.

If the ''transfer'' of money is sent using the family / friends option then its normally free of fees if they fund it via funds in their paypal balance or bank transfer.

However if you are selling and using the friends / family option to evade fees then you risk your account being limited.
