Payment on inspection

Hi
I'm fairly new to ebay and not sure what to do. I have sold an item for £300. The buyer wants to inspect the item before paying via paypal. I have no issue with this and it's a fair request. However, I'm cautious that if they like the item and want to pay there and then via PayPal, will the payment go through straight away or is it best to wait?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My advice is NEVER accept paypal for an item that is to be collected as you will have no seller protection at all.
Ebay allow you to only accept cash on collection on auctions for just that reason.
So tell him you are happy for him to inspect and collect if happy BUT you want cash on collection.
Then you will have instant payment and no paypal fees.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
