Dont want to use button factory!

I will have a lot of buttons to produce and the button factory is very long winded.  I have been trying to set up buttons without the button factory as per instructions at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/xcl/rec/sc-techview-outside but cant get it to work. 

The view cart seems to work from this page, but the add to cart does not.

Should there be something in the action section?  it is blank "" in the example and this seems to redirect to my page, not paypal.

OK, I have made it work.

It didn't say anywhere to put the email address in the business section.  Is it posible to put the merchant ID here instead and if so, how do i find my merchant ID?
