Money transfer

I sent money ( Money Transfer) to a friend in Lithuania through my Paypal linked bank account.  The money was taken out of my bank and sent.  It says it is unclaimed and there is no option to "cancel" the money sent.  The person I sent it to tried to open a Paypal account to accept the money but Paypal says she needs a credit card ( visa, Mastercard etc) and she doesn't have one or want to get one.  Money was sent April 9th 2013.  Today is April 18th 2013.  What are the steps to get my money back?

Its odd you sent someone money who didn't even have a paypal account yet, why did you not wait until they had opened one?

If your money is unclaimed without the cancel option then if the payment remains unclaimed it will be returned to you at 30 days post-payment.

Listen carefully:  She couldn't open a Paypal account because Paypal required a credit card.  Paypal didn't tell me in any instructions that she needed one or even needed an account.

It's not odd if you read what Paypal says about sending money any where in the world.  " Send money to anyone, anywhere in the world.  Even if they don't have a paypal account."   "They will be sent an email letting them know they have money.  It's as easy as that"  " They will then be asked to sign up for a Paypal account and can then collect their money"  It doesn't say anything about needing a credit card ( whats that all about?  I send money and they need a credit card?)

Also, why 30 days?  She's not a seller or buyer, just a friend I sent money to.  Can you cancel it and send it back to me?  She's not opening a Paypal account because she can't.

Well how on earth did you think she was going to get money sent by you via paypal without a paypal account??

Thats like me sending a cheque to someone that does not have a bank account??

Yes paypal does say you can send it to anyone but you have to make sure they can open an account first !!!

I think you are also a bit confused about help on here. This is a help board and not paypal customer services, I am just an ebay seller that uses paypal and helps on here....in my own time.

So no one here has access to your account info.

I am just stating that if the payment is unclaimed without a cancel option then it stays that way for 30 days and then it is returned to you....nothing I or anyone else can do about that unfortunately.

Sorry, I didn't know you weren't with Paypal.  My appologies.

Yes I understand now that it's better for the reciever to have a Paypal account before I send money.  But paypal doesn't portray it that way.  You must admit, they don't.  I  read everything over carefully and what they said wern't the facts or the facts weren't there.  Dig into it and try and send some to Lithuania or probably any over seas country and you'll see it portrays it as "no problem".  Just send it!  They can't have a Paypal account without a credit card.  Google it too.  There are lots of forum Q and A that says they don't need a card.

To top that off, Paypal keeps sending here emails that she has money waiting.  That's a bit annoying seeing the country she lives in lives hour to hour, not day to day or pay cheque to pay cheque.

Thank you for listening to my rant.  I hope I wasn't abusive.  How do I get a hold of Paypal customer service?

You can access customer services via contact us bottom of paypal pages email or phone BUT the phone call is chargeable and i really think that they won''t release your funds before 30 days. Smiley Sad

They are hoping that your buyer does open an account and will "accept" the payment.

Good luck and no you were fine a lot don't realise we are just helpers.
