Money taken from card - refunded to Paypal Balance

I have recently had an AirBnB reservation cancelled by the owner. AirBnB requires payment in full to book which I made via paypal taken from one of my cards. When the owner cancelled and refunded the full amount it didn't go back onto my card but into my Paypal balance.

I want to prevent this happening because if I don't notice that this has happened then my credit card will be charging interest on the deduction while Paypal benefits form having my money in its account.

If it went to your balance then it was not a 'refund'. The 'seller' would have used the send money option instead of the refund option.

Was it post 180 days when the refund option disappears?
