Cancelling an unclaimed payment

I bought an item on ebay on the 29th of August.  The next morning I noticed the payment hadn't been claimed, when i asked the seller why this was the case she looked into it and discovered somhow here paypal account information on her ebay page had been altered and so when iI went to pay my money was diverted to the wrong account.

The seller doesn't know if her account was hacked or if it was a technical issue, but ebay are being extremely unhelpful in resolving this issue.

The seller asked me to cancel the payement and repay her using her now fixed information but when I tried I was told by paypal that it was impossible to cancel the transaction because it was to do with the currency being different to the account it was destined for.

I've been on to both paypal and ebay numerous times and neither one seems to be able to tell me what to do.

I checked and this topic has been discussed before

here

But as this could be a case of a hacked account i'm reluctant to make the person aware my money is waiting to be claimed in their account.

can someone please advise me what to do, at my wits end trying to get this sorted

Thanks in advance

If its unclaimed without a cancel option then paypal will automatically return the funds to you if unclaimed for 30 days after paying.

The seller needs to check the email address they had in the paypal box in the payments section of their auction as they must have either put in a mis-spelt one or the old one was still there when they listed the auction. They need to change it next time they list an item for sale.

Yeah, but in my case the point is the money isn't going to the seller. Someone's ebay account was hacked, so the paypal acount wouldn't have been the seller's.

I have the excact same problem as smaf.

After contacting ebay and paypal on numerous occasions over the past week both seem unable to help.

I have to just wait until the 30 days are up and hope the money isn't claimed.  The seller can't help as the money was sent to different email address.  I do not want to contact the address the money was sent to because it will higlight that my money's there for the taking.

I'm amazed paypal don't have better support in cases like this.  wait and see seems to be all they can advise me to do.

Ebay's customer service however was completely adismal.  I'm seriously considering  leaving the site after 11 years.  They simply don't want to know

If the money was claimed before returned then you could file a dispute for non receipt of item as that person would have nothing to send you so the payment would go on hold the minute you filed the dispute and escalated it to a claim and then they would have to refund. . Smiley Happy
