Cancelling a payment

Made a payment to an account. It was going to take too long so I contacted the ebay seller and asked if he could cancel the transaction. He stated that he couldn't do it so this has got me annoyed now because he may receive my money and I won't receive my product (which I don't even want anymore anyway)

Any help would be appreciated.

If the payment is marked as completed then it can't be cancelled BUT the seller can refund you.

If they don't refund and you don't receive the item you can open a dispute for non receipt of item via the resolution tab in your paypal account.

It is a pending payment and the money has debited my account but not credited into my paypal. I was under the impression that the person sending the item could cancel the sending of the item as well as the payment that is going to go to them?

When you say pending, does it actually say that in your paypal account?

Or does it state unclaimed?

If its pending is their a clearance date?

OK then you have sent an echeque.

An echeque is when you fund a payment from your bank account but have to await clearance if you don't have a back up card on paypal as well or that card has expired and needs updating.

The seller is advised NOT to ship the item until the echeque has cleared. Also the seller does not have to refund you or cancel the pending echeque as you have bid and won the item from him.

What makes you think he will not send the item??

If you have opened a dispute then paypal give the seller 10 days to get the item to you.

If you then find the item was misdescribed in anyway then you have the option to change the dispute to one of "received but not as described" but the onus is on you to prove that.

You can't just change your mind and want your money back when you have won an item.

I messaged the seller telling him that I didn't want the item no more due to the length of time it was going to take (it was a present for my dad for Fathers day).  The seller agreed to cancel the transaction and the payment and this is when the problem arised.

If the payment sends to him if he sends it straight back then that would solve the problem but obviously that would mean me putting a great level on trust into the seller that he is going to send the funds back.

OK but the length of time it was going to take was down to how you paid and not the sellers fault.

It is nice he has said he will refund you and cancel the transaction but he can't REFUND until the payment has cleared.

If the payment clears and he does not send the item then you can get your money back via the paypal dispute system.

However maybe the seller does not know how to cancel a pending echeque???

If so then TELL THE SELLER TO DO THIS >>>>>>

Go to Account Overview > History > Find the relevant payment > Details > Cancel Payment under ‘Cancel this eCheque payment’ > Review the information and include a message to buyer > Cancel Payment.
