If you have set up a paypal cash account or cash plus account to 'hold' a balance then it will go into that balance until you choose to withdraw it to your bank account.
However if you have not set up an account to hold a balance then you will be asked to accept the funds and then whether you want to open a balance OR transfer direct to your bank account.
