Transaction message: "This is a temporary authorization to make sure your payment method will cover the payment. Your payment method will be charged when 'merchant' completes your order." What does this mean?

When you pay a company (rather than an ebay seller or individual), then it is often pending until that company processes your order and captures the pending payment....the temp authorisation just makes the funds 'pending' in your funding source to make sure you have enough to cover the payment when the company takes it.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
