Expensive Service to Use Hard to Retrieve Funds

Paypal cost me 3% of the item price+shipping for an item sold on Ebay which is pretty steep considering Paypal doesn't do any work and benefits from the funds float anyway. Now, I have a balance sitting in my Paypal account and if I am unwilling to share my bank account number, Paypal wants to charge me $1.50 to send a a check for the balance. For this particular transaction, that is another 1%,  for a total unreasonable fee of 3%. Given how much money Paypal makes on each transaction, why can't they at least credit the AmEx card that I usefor purchasing?

Don't use it if you don't like it, its not compulsory.

However without it its doubtful you would sell your item in the first place as no buyer would send money to a stranger without paypal buyer protection.

THAT is what you pay for.....you sell the item because of buyer protection AND you can receive card funded payments from buyers......try using a credit card terminal as businesses do and see how much that costs you to use.

If you are unwilling to give them your bank account details then you can't complain if they charge you to send a cheque.

What you say is correct. My point is that Paypal overcharges for the service.
