Paypal Asking for social security number

I received an email form paypal saying that they need my social security number for tax purposes, want to make sure this is not a scam

If it was really from paypal then the message would nearly always show in your paypal account message or resolution centre.

NEVER reply to any email or click on any link to send that information.

It would only ever be done via an upload link in your paypal account or via a message in your paypal account in the resolution centre.
