Why won't it allow me to close my account, its empty and i do not wish to retain it.

i have tried several times over the last month to close my account. Each time i get a message saying they 'are not able' to close it. I have cancelled automated payments and cleared credit owed. Unfortunately PayPal has still let a through of the accounts I had put stops on, take money anyway. Still I have cleared the balance. So, not only is it forcing me to retain an account i no longer need or what but the way it manages itself, it irregularly lets some charges go through that I have cancelled. I would like anyones advice on why this is happening to me and how to fix it. My husband passed away a few weeks ago so I m clearing debts and closing accounts. No other company has refused to and frankly Im busy enough without having to mess around with PayPal
