Unable to logon using iOS app: We're having some trouble completing your request right now

I am unable to use the app on my iPhone. After entering my credentials and pressing Log  in the following error message is presented in a red bar: "We're having some trouble completing your request right now".

Logging in using the website works without any problems.

 

I have already deleted and reinstalled the app. I have also temporarily disabled 2-factor authentication. The problem persists.

 

I have contacted PayPal Assistant about this. The bot is laughable but of no use. I have chatted with 3 different real persons now over the course of 3 days, but am not entirely sure they are real persons since their advice was as helpful as a wet newspaper.

 

If anyone knows how to solve this, please let me know.
