Impossible to close my account

After using chat, attempting to contact a live person on the phone many, many times, and following directions on closing my account -- I am at an impasse.     I click "close my account" and get an error that says to contact cutomer service.   I have no subscriptions or recurring payments.  My balance is zero. No bank or card is linked.

I. Just. Want. You. To. CLOSE. My. Account.

How hard can this be?

This might be possible the worst customer service experience I've ever had.

Contact options for Paypal are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages...

1. Paypal phones are slowly re-opening and increasing in numbers (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out.

4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
