Ebay beginner first sale disaster due to potential Paypal issues

Hello community,

I would like to appeal for some help with my current situation. I have tried to make my first Ebay sale. A buyer made an offer and I accepted it.

Now the listing says: "SOLD - AWAITING PAYMENT" I didn't know what to do next so I conntacted Ebay customer service. After a lengthy chat with an Ebay representative they suggested I contact Pay Pal. I couldn't resolve the issue with the Pay Pal virtual assistant and so I have come here to seek advice.

Basically, I have two email addresses which may be associated with more than  one Paypal account. The Ebay account was linked to an old email address which may be connected to a 'lost' Pay Pal account. I believe the buyer has paid me my money to this lost account. I have attempted to log in to this 'lost' account and I reset the password but then when I try to log in I get an error page. The Ebay rep then told me to update my email address to the newer one which is linked to my current working Pay Pal account. I was also told to contact the buyer and inform them of the situation and to cancel the transaction. I have messaged the buyer who messaged back for me to update my email address on my Ebay account which I have done.

Can anyone help me find out how to retrieve this 'lost' account as I am worried I won't be able to pay the buyer back if the transaction is cancelled.

Thank you.
