Adaptive Payments API limits preapproved payments by 1 year, really?

I am evaluating an Adaptive Payments API for monthly charges where amount varies every month. The API documentation says about endingDate param of AdaptivePayments/Preapproval call:

"Last date for which the preapproval is valid. It cannot be later than one year from the starting date. Contact PayPal if you do not want to specify an ending date."

However when I try this API out using sandbox account, those 1 year limitation does not appear to work – I've created interval for preapproval from Jan 12, 2012 up to Dec 13, 2014 and that inveral has been shown to the test user. 

The https://svcs.sandbox.paypal.com/AdaptivePayments/Preapproval call just succeeded.

What I want to implement is monthly charges without having user to login to PayPal site after 12 months of usage and now I am in doubt whether I have to trust documentation or de-facto paypal sandbox account behavior? Could somebody from PayPal clarify the expected behavior on real accounts?

Hi - the documentation is correct. The Preapproval validity can no longer be more than an year from the startDate. The sandbox bug has been notified to the engr team. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
