SmallMarketSite dot Com - scam?

I just made a purchase through Smallmarketsite dot com, and paid via paypal, and I'm a little suspicious.
The first thing that made me suspicious, was that the store (top in the yahoo shopping search) had no ratings. Usually merchants have ratings.
The 2nd thing, was that upon checkout, the "do you want a merchant e-mail feedback form e-mailed to you" was not checked - usually that's checked automatically - but It thought - no big deal.
The price was very good (and only 80 bucks), the shipping was free and it's the product I wanted. (granted, the low price made me suspicious too)
After completing the purchase, I got a confirmation that I'd made a payment to 3 chinese characters - that could have said anything from small market site, to Laugh at America, but, it seemed odd. Not that Chinese stores shouldn't sell on the internet, but it just looked strange.
So, I googled smallmarektsite dot com, and I found out that they sell sneakers, among other things, and somebody questioned the authenticity of the site selling the sneakers.
Now, this is a site that's an approved Yahoo seller, and Paypal approved, so, on the one hand, maybe they are legit.
On the other hand, the box set of 11 DVDs I ordered seems unusually cheap, so maybe they are selling pirated copies, or maybe they got the licence to see these and they're just beating the competitors price.
Maybe this is China's answer to Amazon and it's all legit, or, maybe it's selling illigal remakes or maybe, I'll never recieve what I just paid for.
I'm not overly concerned about the 80 bucks, but I was wondering what others (who might be more educated in this than I am) think about this merchant.
thanks.

Well I think I just got scammed by this website also! I ordered some uggs from them Monday, they are just now shipping them. When I saw that they were being shipped from China...my husband said there is no way you are getting those before Christmas. So we did some research and found that alot of others had this problem, and also said the company stole their money and scammed them. This is really agrivating right here at Christmas. I went through Paypal and disputed the charge. So hopefully, I will get my money back. Good Luck to everyone else that got scammed by this company. Oh yeah, the company was just started in April of this year, and has changed domains like 17 times. I hate a thief!!!!!!!

I purchased shoes for my son. They arrived AFTER christmas, but they did arrive. He had tried them on in a store so I knew what size to order. When received, they are too small, asked for return and they said they had fulfilled the order as requested. So I guess i am stuck with 80 $$ shoes. SCAM.

After becoming suspicious about a recent order I placed for 2 pair of boots for my girls and not recieving any communication from the website, I googled the website and came across many complaints about the company. I have filed a dispute with PayPal and was advised that if either I don't recieve an email with a tracking # from the seller or if they don't hear back from the seller in the next 30days I will be eligible for a full refund. They give the seller the option to return a tracking # or advise them to go ahead and cancel the transaction and refund the money. I can't understand how after so many complaints filed and disputed, Paypal still keeps an affiliation with this company.

UPDATE! After my dispute that was filed with Paypal.. I recieved an email from the website that said.. "How can I help you my friend?" that was the response I got attached to my original email to cancel the order and return my payment immediately. Paypal was great. They had my money refunded to me by the 21st of February. $198 for 2 pair of more then likely fake UGGS for my girls. Since then, took the refund to Nordstroms and bought them authentics for an extra $60. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! Hopefully everyone else will have a happy ending to their nightmare as well.
Good Luck.

I ordered a dvd set on this site because it was cheaper, but what a mistake. I am usually cautious about ordering from websites I don't know. In this case I checked to see where they were located and the website said it was a California company. I knew that the Chinese rip off American DVD's and sell cheap copies and I wanted to stay away from that. I puposely did not buy one from a site that had the set for $30 cheaper because they said they were from China and I knew it would be a cheap illegal copy. This website was in between the price at Walmart and the price of the Chinese site so I thought maybe it would be OK. WRONG. I was instantly suspicious because the paypal payment went to a seller with 3 chinese characters for their name. So, being cautious, I filed a complaint with paypal within two days of the purchase. I figured paypal would put a hold on the money and I would get my money back if the item didn't show up. In the complaint I asked the seller for a tracking number. They responded very quickly and gave me a tracking number from EMS and asked me to cancel the complaint. The tracking number was a legitimate number, but it had no information as to the destination so I told the seller I would not cancel the complaint until I received the product. They responded again and said it would show up. Then, a few days later I checked the tracking number again. It seems they gave me a tracking number for someone elses item. It showed that it was shipped from China, came to the US and was delivered and signed for by someone I have never heard of. Not my package, someone elses. They probably give that same tracking number to everyone and hope that they will cancel their complaints. The GALL of those people to send me a bogus tracking number to try to get away with stealing my money. It has now been well past the 5-7 days they claimed it would take for shipping so I feel safe in posting this message in hopes it will keep someone else from being ripped off. I always believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case there are too many warning signs. 1. They claim to be from California but are actually from China. 2. They gave a tracking number for someone elses package. 3. Even though they did respond to the paypal complaint, they apparantly did so just to try to get me to cancel the complaint because the package has yet to arrive and it is well beyond the time they said it would be. Don't get ripped off, do not buy from Smallmarketsite.com. IF MY PACKAGE EVER ARRIVES I WILL POST IT ON THIS WEBSITE, but I am not counting on it. I have escalated my complaint with paypal to a claim. I hope this helps someone.

Well my package did arrive from China. I think it was about 12 days instead of the 5-7 promised. The contents of my package - a pair of FAKE Uggs! I know this because I ordered a pair from Zappos in the same color since I didn't have faith in the SmallMarketSite order. The shoe box (smaller than the genuine Ugg box) was only wrapped in a garbage bag and some other plastic, therefore the box was rather smashed. I opened the box and the boots were smelly and the dye was not uniform. The fur inside looks different, too. The post office tried to deliver when I wasn't home and left a slip. So my husband picked them up and brought them home - he thought it was something else we were expecting. We probably should have refused to sign for it. Since he signed, I'll have to report that we got the item and that it is a fake. I'm not sure what can be done since they are shipping from China. Hopefuly I won't have to pay since the item is a fake.

Ok, yesterday I posted that I never got my item from this company and that it was way past due. Today I get a package from them and open it thinking it finally came and I was going to have to eat my words. NOPE. I am not going to eat crow on this because they sent me the WRONG dvd set! After all of that grief, the package finally comes and it is NOT what I ordered. They claim to be from California, but are in China. They send you an INCORRECT tracking number when you ask for proof. Then they ship the WRONG item to you. I am NOT going to pay return shipping charges back to CHINA for their mistake! I will continue to ask Paypal to refund my money. DO NOT BUY FROM Smallmarketsite.com. They are a very bad business.
