How do I set the shipping calculator to know the item wieght?

I set my shipping calculations by item wieght. When someone is at checkout on my online store the shipping calculator doesn't calculate.

How do I set my calculator to know how much my items wieghs to know how much to calculate for shipping during checkout on my online store?
