I recently bought an expensive item and paid immediately by paypal. I messaged the seller that I would collect the item myself (the seller's preferred option too) as I live nearby. After 3 messages the seller finally replied, asking if I could collect the item at the weekend. I replied that I could, and asked for the collection address. Since then he has not replied to that message or the two follow-up messages I sent.
He has not accepted the papypal payment yet, so the item is not marked as sold, and as a consequence I can't open a case at the Resolution Centre.
My suspicion is that he was disappointed by the amount the item made and is hoping that I will cancel if he doesn't respond. But I don't want to cancel the transaction, I want my item. What action can I take? I need to speak to a real person to move this forward, the Resolution centre just isn't set up to provide me with assistance in this case.
Finally, if I have to cancel the transaction, will PayPal charge me any fees? That would be the final straw! I'd be really grateful for any advice anyone can offer.

If its pending unclaimed with a cancel option then it means the seller has an incorrect email address on his ebay auction.
If so then cancel the payment and you are not charged anything, but it may take up to a week to go back to your funding source dependent on how you funded the payment.
Sounds as if the seller is new as no experienced seller would accept paypal for an item that is to be collected as they would have no seller protection.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Just hope that he accepts your PayPal payment!
After you collect it wait a few weeks, start a dispute tp say you haven't receievd it and you will for sure get your money back because he won't have proof of postage or a leg to stand on!
When he complains (as he will be furious) Volunteer PayPal advisors will tell him he's obviously stupid, to take 'his mistake' on the chin, keep to car boots and then complain about people reveiling the scam they so desperatly don't want people to know about!!
