Take for example: 2011 Cook Islands $5 Liberty 1/10th Ounce .24 Pure Gold Collector Coin
You can find this listing under 1/10th ounce gold coins. Now here's what I find to be a bit misleading...
While the coin does weigh 1/10th of an ounce and it contains "Pure Gold" the actual amount of pure gold is only .024 ounces--where the value is less than a quarter of a 1/10th of an ounce of gold. So buyers beware. This coin only has a pure gold content of .024 ounces, which if gold is at $2,000/ounce the pure gold value of this coin is $48.00 Now the designs are very beautiful and add to the owners appreciation of the coin and that carries a value as well, but just be aware that actual "melt" value is much closer to less than $50 in this example.
