I recently listed a patio set for sale on craigslist. I soon was contacted by a scammer. This person was not interested in coming to look at the set...said she trusted me. She said it was for her disabled brother and that she was too busy to come look at the set...$500...because she was attending a "peace keeping seminar". This way way more info than I needed to know...however, after doing a search on scams, I learned this is the norm. The clincher was when she insisted that she would put the $500 in my paypal account, plus another $50 to remove the listing. I was thinking about this for a few hours, I am a senior and not savvy regarding these things. She persisted in sending pressuring e-mails...saying that her "movers" didn't accept paypal (duh) and so she would also deposit $350 in my paypal acct. for her movers. All in all, I didn't know how the scam would work...but as soon as I thought about her wanting to put $900 in my paypal acct for an item that she would not even be seeing, I figured out this was not legit. She persisted in e-mailing me until I finally told her that I knew it was a scam and not to contact me again. She did get my e-mail address but I'm hoping there's no way for her to hack into my paypal. Anyway, she used the name "Emma" in her correspondence. Hope this helps someone.

Its good that you did not do that sale. If you google search "paypal scams" most are from craigslist. I have almost been scammed about 4 or 5 times. One of them was over a ps3 I had and someone was going to pay me $600 and $200 to ship it to africa.

Good move. If it doesn't feel right don't do it. Anything from Craigslist that involves shipping (especially out of your local area) is highly suspicious.
