I posted an ad via GumTree selling an item of furniture.
Today, I received a text to my mobile which states " Just viewed your item on Gumtree kindly email me at xxxxx
So I did, and within 1 minute I received the following:
"Thanks for the swift response...I am willing to know the lowest price of it.due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.
As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).
I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made ...so no shipping included.
You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign up. its very easy.I await your reply asap"
I knew it was too good to be true, as they didn't specify location, details, wanted paypal account and it was very general. The first thing that stood out for me was the fact that no-one could type THAT fast in 1 minute of receiving my e-mail. It looked fishy, poor grammar, no specific details and the like. You just know...
So I googled the first sentence of their response, then I came up with SCAMMER WARNINGS. I replied back saying they will be reported. However, I will leave up to you Paypal to ensure that it doesn't continue.
I've had some trouble with on-line scams in the past, and I could smell this one a mile away. I'm getting more and more aware.
Thanks Paypal.
For your information and for those others out there to warn them and ensure they do their research before entering anything as such.
Regards,
