Flights with Monarch - Paypal Protection ATOL CAA

Hi All,

I booked flights with Monarch in June for April 2018.  £1200 in total and used Paypal to pay.   Monarch has now gone into administration and the unhelpful CAA website is feeling very proud bringing 100k people back using 30 planes over the next few weeks.

I have read the CAA Monarch website to be told that there is no ATOL protection on flights booked. - surely this cannot be right?   How can you pick and choose ATOL protection?

Paypal must surely honour refunds to protect it's good name.  Will they be releasing a statement?

I am contacting them direct today but expect a fight to get my money back.

I received my refund today in full. Lucky there is buyer protection on paypal. I did not use a credit or debit card, so relying do let on Paypal buyer protection. For anyone still struggling to raise a ticket, I found the only way was to call and ask them to raise it. Wait for the response period to lapse and then Paypal will adjudicate.

I had problems raising a dispute online so sent an email re the message centre. They replied quite quickly and raised a dispute for me which I could then see in the resolution centre. I have escalated it myself telling them it is pointless to wait for a reply from Monarch. Waiting for a response

PayPal need to do the right thing here or the consequences could have a huge impact on the product name.

We've got the problem that our flights were booked back in March for February 2018 so over 180 days ago which is past their protection period apparently. After a 35 minute phone call to PayPal centre in USA 🤦🏼‍♀️ they have advised me that they will contact Monarch but it didn't sound very positive as it was over 6 months after I'd paid. £1,555 down at the moment. How on earth is it fair to offer the option to pay for these type of things on PayPal if they're not willing to honour the payment. My bank don't want to know as it wasn't a direct card payment. Good luck to everyone trying to get their money back 🤞🏻 My 2nd year in a row that my holiday company's gone bust!!

I have a similar problem but not as big a loss as yours.

Paypal have advised me that as I am out of time to claim I should claim off my travel insurance (doesn't cover) or claim on my c card company which I have done but not holding my breath.

Just to rub salt in the wound I’ve seen this morning that I’ve been charged £36.00 for the phone call to PayPal which I even checked with at the time about the cost. Still no response back from them either 😡
