Refund back to credit card

Hi I have made a purchase in a store online using pay pal, if I get a refund issued by store if I decide to return item, will the refund go straight back to my credit card or sit in my PayPal balance?

If you funded the original payment to the seller with a card then any refund goes back to that card.

It would only go to your balance IF you paid via bank transfer OR funds in your paypal account balance.
