I don't know what happened but a payment was directly taken from my checking account instead of my visa account. This wasn't expected so I ended up being over drawn. I don't want this to happen again so I deleted my bank account. Why did it go to my bank account instead of my visa? Do I really need to have a bank account listed in pay-pal?

Bank account is the default funding source for PayPal payments... the default cannot be changed. To change the funding source to credit or debit card, you need to click on the "More funding options" link for each and every payment.
It's necessary to have a linked bank account or be approved for PayPal credit in order to lift your lifetime PayPal sending limit. Login to your PayPal account and click on the "View Limits" link to see what limits you have and for instructions on how to lift the limits.

The same thing happened to me this week. I changed the funding source and my default bank account was still charged. I am very upset because I overdrew and no one is giving me straight answers.

This just happened to me and I am furious.
Customer Services says that it's PayPal's policy to make it default that way.
I feel that it's practivally fraudulent, if they are making money off of fees because of this.
Someone should call the FBI or something. It's theft if they charge you a fee for accidentally NOT UNSELECTING a DEFAULT THEY WON'T LET YOU CHANGE.

This has happened to me also in the last 2 weeks. I have always had my credit card listed and used my bank account to verify my status. I have used paypal lots of times and it has always hit my credit card. What has changed in the last few weeks that now the funds are taken directly from my bank account? It never used to be that way. It sounds like others are experiencing the same thing. What have you changed PAYPAL??

HELP, DEBIT CKGING INSTEAD OF CREDIT CARD. CHARGE REFUSED AND NOW I OWE BANK $35.00 WHEN I ASKED THAT MY CHARGES BE BILLED TO MY CREDIT CARD IN THE SYSTEM. PAYPAL SHOULD REFUND ME THE $35.00 FEE, I AM JUST FURIOUS AND EMBARASSED AND I SEE I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM NEW TO ALL THIS AND I AM STARTING TO SELL HOPING TO GET A SMALL INCOME STREAM COMING IN. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO WORRY IF MY MONEY IS IN THE BANK ACCOUNT OR NOT AND THEN I GUESS BUYER CAN REFUSE TO PAY FOR ITEMS IF THEY DON'T LIKE THEM OR HAVE BUYERS REMORSE AND YOU CAN BE OUT ITEM AND MONEY... GUESS IT IS A CHANCE YOU TAKE AND PART OF DOING BUSINESS. HOW DO WE GET PAY PAL TO PAY THE SERVICE CHARGE FEES WHEN YOU WANTED YOUR CREDIT CARD TO PAY FOR ITEM NOT BANK ACCOUNT
THIS IS NOT FAIR AND THE SYSTEM SHOULD NOT CHANGE YOUR DEFAULT WHEN WE HAVE ASKED TO USE CREDIT CARD, NOT BANK ACCOUNT. CAROL MAY

I am going to be making a payment for some car repairs and I want to pay with the credit card attached to my account, aside from selecting "more funding options"; what else can I do to be assured that may payment will post to my credit card?

Add another case to the list. Not only are they unwilling to assist you with this problem - they have a script they read to you when you say one key word and it is usually unrelated to the issue. I was in the process of starting an ebay store but if Paypal is the only method of payment, I am starting to strongly reconsider.
As a consumer, I am getting hosed with fees from an old, dead account. The supervisors had absolutely no desire to retain a customer, started escalating with ME, and had the attitude of a $5/hour employee. It's not like I'm in collections here - I just don't think it's reasonable for PP to decide to choose the account with no money in it rather than the one I couldn't specify. Oh...I see their scam now.
