Conflicting payment information

Hi All, I hope you can help.

 

I've just got a nasty letter from Barclays saying that they won't pay paypal for 2 amounts that paypal tried to get from the account on 30/8/12 as there were no funds. The reason I had no funds is that I cleaned out that account with the intention of closing it. The two payments were from actual purchases I made on 25/8/12 and were listed as cleared on paypal so I thought it was safe to clean out the account.

 

I have no idea whether anyone has been paid or not. I thought there was no delay in paypal paying off my purchases and getting money from the bank - was I wrong?

 

My question is this: Is the mix up due to delay via paypal (thus my bad for not knowing), or just Barclays being absolutely rubbish (so I can rain down merry **bleep** on the stupid girl who didn't tell me £100 odd was pending)?

 

Really sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, I couldn't see a similar entry.
