Using a credit card to secure funding instead of bank account?

Currently, I use a checking account, backed up with a credit card, to secure PayPal funding. Is there a way to use the credit card exclusively?

Sorry, watchout!  I thought you were Adrian.  If you were him, this applies to him, not you.  Yes though, there are other avenues to sell and buy.  Thanks for the heads up.

I don't work for Ebay/Paypal so they are not my policies.  Also, you are the one that implied you had a bank account.  You might want to proof your post to make sure it is clear and concise.  "If I didn't have a bank account, Chase would not have given me a credit card.  What are you, nuts?"

I just sold an item on Ebay and I read the disclores for fee's.  It was pretty clear and upfront this is not a FREE seller service.  You might want to try and sell your item's locally or craigslist if you don't want to pay the fee's.

I listed brand new tires on my local newspaper website and within 24 hours they were picked up and paid cash.  I did the same with a Gameboy Advance SP and within 48 hours picked up and paid cash.

I really don't like Ebay and prefer Amazon for all my purchases.  I'm a Prime Member and get 2 day free shipping.  Saves me hunred's of dollars in inflated shipping cost.  A lot of Ebay seller's inflate and make profit on shipping.

Good luck in your endeavors!

I have run $9372 thru Paypal's a/c. I originally had my Bank a/c linked but  I didn't like the way Paypal handled my transactions so I removed the Bank a/c and left the Credit Card. Now they say I am nearing my lifetime limit of $10,000 and have to verify my a/c. If they have had my bank info in the past why should I have to verify again.  My simple solution is now to avoid Ebay and paypal in the future. When I reach the $10,000 and they won't accept any more transactions I will just close both of those a/c's since Paypal is owned by Ebay lets hit Ebay where it hurts.

My answer to your second paragraph will also answer your first paragraph.   I am sorry you felt the implication was there that I had or may have had a Chase bank account.  NO, I never did.  Too easy for them to grab funds from my

personal account.  So that leaves the BANK credit card as a back up, not an option.  Pay pal has no need to know how much credit I have available.   I am aware of your policies and prodcedures, however every time you debit my credit card they charge you any where up to 3% and I am positive that is why you want my to "COMFIRM"  my account.

I have heard so many horror stories that pay pal has withdrawn money  without ones' knowledge only to cause an over draft, which also creates and overdraft charge of $30.00.  While I keep a sufficient amount of money in my account to NEVER have had an overdraft, just the thought of someone (pay pal) going into my account without my knowledge gives me shivers. (that is without and card backup)

Hey, I have an idea!  Why not as an option associate pay pal with the credit bureaus and for a  paltry $1.50 they can get  3 credit reports?  My score is upwards of 800 and that my friend is enough to convince anyone of my credit worthiness.  But alas, all pay pay wants to do is get away from being charged up to 3%.  No brainer.

Your policies and procedures is enough to DRIVE me away and isn't that the purpose in the first place?  To get me to spend money?  Without me and millions like me, I can't concieve of you even having a business.  No more selling for me.  I will let other chumps pay all the fees.  I just went through a selling spree on ebay and while my items sold well, the amount of money you and ebay took, left me with half the income I generated.  Not good.  I suggest you reasses

your policies and procedures as many more people feel the way I do.  Many more do NOT know you are charged when you withdraw from a credit card.  Good luck!!!  And so long......................

O.K.  well I guess when I reach my limit, I will go somewhere else.  I recently had a short amount of time where I did sell on the ebay, but I lost so much money overall (ebay took the fees, then their other company (pay pay) took the rest.  I came out ahead (behind) about $6.32 on sales equaling over $70.00 in coin sales.  Yes, I have read their fine print, yes, I do know they need to make money and would not expect otherwise.  I just feel selling on ebay is not for me.  I may purchase now and again, however I am slowing down on my purchases of coins,  since I am getting close to what I need for my collection, it couldn't come at a better time.  Reaching my limit of $10,000 is kind of limiting their sales with me.  Again, I will never verify with them or paypal, just one of those americans out there that is making a purchase every now and again.  I know I have purchased about $2500.00 in items, however, they show I still have about $9400.00 before I reach my limit.  No rhyme or reason behind their methodolgy, so no big deal.   There is ALWAYS other methods of making purchases on items I need.  Plus buying/paying local I can pay sales tax which will help the economy overall.  Bye, Bye ebay!!!!  (So  LONG pay pal.)

Guys, guys, guys.

The solution is simple, though I found out by chance.

I used to have an account in an internet bank, just for  an automatic deposit to go into that, and then transfer it to my regular bank account. I had used that account with paypal. I usually paid for everything with my debit card from my regular account, which I had not given to paypal. Then one day, I forgot to change the payment source to credit card for 2 payments, and paypal send them to my bank, which did not have enough to cover, and they were presented 3 TIMES before they went to my credit card, costing me $180 in overdraft fees. I contacted my bank, and worked out a deal with them to the tune of **bleep** you guys, I am closing my account. (They agreed to waive the fees and consider the account to have a zero balance which meant I lost the $39 that were there at the time of the **bleep**up, so the acount still exists, but is inactive.)

So I went to paypal to remove the account, since it was closed, and was warned that I would lose my verified status. So I did not remove the account. Therefore I remained verified, but if Paypal ever wants to steal my money (I doubt it, but some of you are worried about that), they will not be able to. I still have my debit card on file and use that for payments, same as before. I am verified, and Paypal is covered because they have my card info as well as the original verification proccess from my acount. (In 5 years since I verified my account, there have been no Paypal transactions or inquiries into it by paypal other than this **bleep**up, so if I had closed it, they would have no way of knowing, besides which, I had a credit card on file I had cancelled for over 2 years before Paypal asked me to renew it since the expiration date was nearing, so once you verify and put an account or card on file, it stays there till you tell them otherwise or it expires in case of credit cards).

So my solution to you, based on my experience: Open a new account in a bank  of your choice. Some banks give you no-fee checking if you have other relationships with them, like a loan or mortgage. Use that to verify, the keep it empty or near so. If you still worry, just close the account after a while. (I cannot be 100% sure that that will work, but I had a closed account on file, as a second accound, for a couple of years that nobody bothered with),  Paypal is happy because they verified your identity, and you are happy because they have no access to your main bank account. Everybody is happy, case closed.

O.K. makes sense to me.  Let me see if I have this straight.  Open a checking account, place maybe $100.00 there and forget it?  Let e-bay have that account information and I am verified?  Will they still use my CC?  The one poster put a/c and I am not sure if he is referring to accounts or a/c as in air conditioning.  (Accts)  Anyway, I am concerned about them retrieving funds from the checking once I have reached the 10K limit on the CC.  Is that anything to worry about? I still have about 5K to go before I reach it.  I just don't want them to grab funds then pay overdraft fees.  But thanks for sharing your experiences.

CC for Credit Card? I thought CC pitched for the NY Yankees (Sabathia). Yeah open an a/c with $100 and pay $15.00 a month for fees because you don't keep the balance required . Sounds like a plan.
