I just payed for a merchantise, which is listed as $USD. I configured the payment by "AMAZON VISA CANADA".
I setup USD as primary currency and assume that paypal will charge USD against this credit card.
However paypal still charged me as CAD and do the currency conversion for me. I see lots in community that mentioned
there is currency conversion option you can use. But I can not find this "currency conversion option".
Can someone help?
What I want to do is: when I buy usd charged items, I need paypal to charge USD against my "amazon visa canada"
credit card.
thank you.

Hi,
This is what PAYPAL should have told you.....
in the old (better) layout
once you did the the default currency options
www.gamedealscanada.com/2016/06/09/changing-paypals-default-currency-conversion-option/
on your main preferences/options
this would naturally reflect on the checkout,
so you would setup this once
and it would be done for every transaction
from that point onwards.
Now some greedy minion at Paypal came up
with a great idea to sneak in
another extra idiot tax fee of around 3-5%
on the exchange rates for the less aware.
So....
NOW on the NEW LAYOUT/CHECKOUT
you ALWAYS have to choose the option
to be billed in the original currency
regardless of wether this has already been selected
in the main website default options or not.
That option in the main site is there
in both old and new
but only works if a particular transaction
gets the OLD CHECKOUT at the end,
wich happens very very rarely at the moment.
So how do you do it now???
The option to bill our CC/Bank in the original currency
and let our CC/Bank do the conversion instead of Paypal
is still there in the NEW checkout layout,
its just a bit hidden,
in order to extort a few more % out of the less attentive
on any foreign currency transactions they make.
So....
On the NEW CHECKOUT....
Just click on Change just below the Exchange rate info
as per the example below
x-0069 EUR 69.69
Which opens
the Payment Options
for example to Change which CC/Bank
you want to use for this particular transaction
as per the example below:
x-6969
Exchange rate: EUR 1.00 = £0.81
And then...
just click on any of the EUR 1.00 = £0.81 links
to Open small a bogus EXCHANGE RATE INFO dialogue box next to it
as per below:
Exchange rate converted as of
12/22/2016, GMT 10:07 AM.
View exchange rate options
View exchange rate options
View exchange rate options
View exchange rate options
And then
just click on the View exchange rate options link
to Open the EXCHANGE RATE OPTIONS popup Screen
for this transaction.
It should say someyhing like:
- Rip me off , I love it
- Bill me in the currency listed in the Seller's invoice
Just select the bottom option
And THAT's IT
Please bear in mind that on the new checkout
PS 1 -
These examples are from ebay transactions/invoices
but there is a similar procedure for sending money
and paying PP invoices as well.
View exchange rate options
View exchange rate options
View exchange rate options
View
PS 2 -
Be sure that as soon as enough people figure this out
and the revenues of this idiot tax drop significantly,
paypal will surely hide this somewhere else
for another round of this endless greedy cat and mouse game.
Have fun...

@bbozhanov wrote:Guys,
It is so simple. It is called link:
https://www.paypal.com/bg/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_profile-merchant-pull-funding&buyer_hub
The link works and it takes you to the "old" interface where you can indeed change the currency conversion options for your cards.
Altough I have changed them everytime it seems that paypal "resets" this once a while so that you get scammed.
And these days you simply cannot select anymore what currency to use when sending money directly from paypal.com (also a huge issue that will never be fixed)
So yes, the link worked, thank you so much, without that link is IMPOSSIBLE to find where to change your currency on the new interface. It's impossible because there is NO LINK / BUTTON for that

Thanks for the link. Without it I wouldn't have found it since the direct link on my "Available funding" page is gone.... !!
Besides I had it set to "let my card issuer convert" long time ago but it had recently been reset by Paypal to their conversion.
I think it is unacceptable to bury this option and it is borderline fraudulent since no customer should be lured into thinking that Paypal's bad currency conversion is the only option there is. It is obviously done to siphon extra money off of unsuspecting customers. Not good at all for your credibility and respectability Paypal!

I believe I tried this setting in the past. It's for ongoing pre-approved payments only. Not general online purchases. In every case each thing I tried or found whether on ebay checkout or Paypal, even when the invoice was charged in the seller's currency, once it was applied to my credit card, Paypal had taken their (unfair) share.
If it worked for you, I'm glad, but double check it.

I wonde why they've made it so hard to find - couldn't find any way to this link (bless you for sending it) through their own menus, did I miss something or did they really do a bad job with the new interface?..
