I received this e-mail this morning. I don't use pay-pal that ofter and don't keep money in my account.  I haven't used this method of payment in a very long time. How can there be activity when there is no money in the account.  Is this a skam??   Log in to your PayPal account as soon as possible

Dear Customer,

Recently, there's been activity in your PayPal account that seems unusual compared to your normal account activities. Please log in to PayPal to confirm your identity and update your password and security questions.

To help protect your account, no one can send money or withdraw money. In addition, no one can add money to your account, add a card, add a bank account, remove any bank accounts, remove credit cards, send refunds, or close your account.

What's going on?

We're concerned that someone is using your PayPal account without your knowledge. Recent activity from your account seems to have occurred from a suspicious location or under circumstances that may be different than usual.

This is a spoof email and not from paypal, so i hope you did not sign in via any link in that email or click to download anything??

If you did then you would have given away your log in info to a scammer.

If you are ever concerned log in to your paypal account normally and if there are no messages in there then your account is fine.

You will know an email is not from PayPal when:

•The email uses a generic greeting like 'Dear user' or 'Hello, PayPal member’ or 'Dear Customer'. Paypal always addressed by your full name eg Dear John Smith etc.
•The email requests financial and other personal information.
•The email includes an attachment, a software update to install on your computer.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I have the same concern, but mine appears to have been legitimate email sent from service @ paypal.com. The same exact email, heading and content all the same, three times: first March 11, then March 31, then April 10:
Subject: Important - We noticed unusual activity in your PayPal account

Dear [my correct first name],

We need your help resolving an issue with your PayPal account. Until you help us resolve this issue, we've temporarily limited what you can do with your account.

What's going on?

What to do next

Please log in to your PayPal account and complete the steps to confirm your identity and recent account activity. To help protect your account, access will remain limited until you complete the necessary steps.

The security of your PayPal account is a top priority for us and we want to work together to help protect it.

If you need help or have any questions, call us at Login, Click "Contact", Click "Call Us" [<this phone number was a link], 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM Pacific Time Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM Pacific Time Saturday and Sunday. Please note that hours of operation may vary on holidays.

Sincerely,

PayPal

I haven't used my PayPal account in several years. It's empty. When I finally logged in (and then changed my password), there was no sign anywhere of unusual activity that I could see.

Please let me know what the probem is or was.

in the PayPal email above, "Login, Click "Contact", Click "Call Us" aren't in the actual emai. I don't know why it is there.
