That's totally up to you however, a better practice is, you sell an item, PayPal deposits the funds in your account balance minus the transaction processing fees, you then ship the item.  The shipping fees come from your account balance.  Wait until the the customer has received the item.  If all is good, then transfer remaining balance to your bank account.

As withdraws and transfers can take up to 8 days for CA account, if you keep the funds in your PayPal Account Balance until everything is good with your customer, you won't run into any issues should you have to do a refund.  Else, if the funds are in your bank account, there can be a bit of a delay with doing a refund.

thanks but i have recieved an email from my buyer that states that he has sent the payment, but it does not show up in my account at all. I was lead to believe that when a transaction was made that at least a pendig transaction would at least be present in my accout. If i have to wait until i send the item for it to appear in my account (even as pending) is unacceptable and had i known that prior i would not even had considered using Paypal! anyone can create an e-mail and make it look like an official e-mail from Paypal. I was informed by the buyer also that once i have sent the xbox to it's destined location in Nigeria (sounds like a scam) and have sent to paypal the tracking info from Canada Post that Paypal would make accessable to me the funds in my Paypal account. Is this true? Because if so i don't mind using my money to send the xbox if i will be inembursed the shipping fees.

I appologise in advance for these obviously noobie questions, i'm old school in that i prefer face to face transactions, lookin the eye to measure a person and a ferm handshake to close a deal. I feel this has been lost with the new gen and all too often it seems that many deals end in some kind of scam! It's sad.

It's a scam. I'm in the same situation as you are.

I'm selling my old laptop on Craigs, and got an email that said the sender is "ready to buy the product" for full price, plus $100 for shipping. So, I gave him my paypal email and got a "confirmation from paypal" about the payment, but there are no transactions in my account. With the help of PayPal support I figured out it's not a legit confirmation. The fun part is, the "buyer" is asking for a shipping number (sure Smiley LOL), but I'm definitely not going to ship anything.

By the way, the shipping address is:

City: Abeokuta

State: Ogun State

Zip Code: 110001

Country: Nigeria

Google mapped the address part, out of interest, nothing came up Smiley Surprised

I got a text from spmeone not a minute after I posted the item on Kijiji.  They wanted to purchase the item unseen for her bother in another province in Canada.  She asked for an invoice - I sent a Paypal invoice.  She said she sent me the money plus her agents fees, and that I had to send $400 to the agent by MoneyGram and once I did that, Paypal would deposit the funds in my account.  Sounded weird and the emails were written in very bad english.  I Googled Paypal MoneyGram and it came up with several scams very similar to what was being sen t me.

Are you selling on eBay?

If so , as a new seller, your customer's payments will be held for 21 days. This is nothing personal , it is a Buyer Protection policy that applies to new sellers, sellers of high value /high fraud items, and to experienced sellers who have Violations.

The money will show as Held not as Pending.

Pending means the buyer paid from her bank account and the payment has to clear both the US and Canadian banking systems before it is accessible. Be careful, some of these e-cheques will bounce.

If it shows as Held, the payment has cleared and PP is holding it against your good customer service.

You can access the money to print and pay for a PP shipping label. Small comfort, these shipping labels are 5% to 18% cheaper than buying postage at the PO counter.

Eventually, the Hold is dropped, but it will take longer if you are selling electronic and gaming equipment rather than, for example, books or beanie babies.

Nigeria?

Yep. It's a scam.

Apparently Nigeria is now the largest economy in Africa. It would be even harger if they had the will to get rid of scammers.
