PayPal Survey Sweepstakes - Tenthwave/A Wire Stone Company

I received email contact from a person at Tenthwave regarding "PayPal Survey Sweepstakes 1Qtr 2016 - Stating Tenthwave/A Wire Stone Company is acting on behalf of PayPal to award a grand prise to me.

I am seeing evidence that this may be legit but they are asking for personal info in the Affidavit of Eligibility - like SSN...

They are asking for this info but no upfront money:

"Before we can declare you the Official Winner, there is paperwork that you would need to complete. The first form is an Affidavit of Eligibility, this confirms that you are compliant with the Official Rules. By completing this document, you are stating that you are who you say you are, you are 18 years or older, and no one in your household, including yourself, works for PayPal, their surrounding companies.

The next form that we would need to collect from you is a W-9 form. Any prize that you claim over $600, you will need to pay taxes on at the end of the year. At the beginning of next year, we will send you a 1099 form, so you can claim the prize on your 2016 taxes.

Once I receive these two forms and everything checks out, we can declare you the Official Winner and you should allow 6-8 weeks for the processing and delivery of your prize."

Just verifying that Tenthwave was really hired for this Sweepstakes winner verification.  The PayPal scam service center had not bad reports and no know information on this sweepstakes or Tenthwave/Wire Stone being a 3rd party for this program.  I found it hard to believe that they didn't have a PayPal person to discuss this with.

I recently also received this email. I also found it hard to believe and called PayPal, the representative and her manager said never heard of this contest or wirestone. I tried calling wirestone from their main hotline and office and no response. I'm pretty cautious so find it hard to believe this is real. What was the outcome for you?

I got this email too! And they put $500 into my PayPal account?! I didn't send any of my information before they put it in there. I'm afraid to touch it! I don't want to get charged 500 if I try to take it out.

  1. I was required to fill out paperwork for the IRS due to the amount I received.  I was required to add it to my taxable income.
  2. This was a legit PayPal Survey Sweepstakes - Tenthwave/A Wire Stone Company did handle the paperwork and I received the money into my account.  I moved it promptly.
