Paypal acting funny: Credit cards, BML, and the country switch ...

Hi community,

I know that similar issues have been addressed quite a few times already, but we followed all advice we found and Paypal is still showing the same - rather funny - behaviour to our customers ...

But firstly ... we have:

- a website with Buy now / add to cart buttons on it

- PP Payments Standard running in business account mode

- PP account optional activated
- a verified E-Mail

Now, always testing in a fresh (private mode) browser, what happens is the following:

A) some US customers get to choose the credit card option -- Yay! 🙂

B) some US customers don't get it but are instead shown the Bill Me Later option ...

While this is already "funny", it gets better: When we change the country for someone out of B) to an arbitrary country, and afterwards change it back to United States ... the credit card option magically appears! 😄

This works every time and is certainly a great workaround, but not many of our B) group customers will find this out on their own.

So, our question now is: Why is PP behaving so funny and what can we do about it?

Thanks

You may want to open a support ticket here:

We know for sure that cookies do make a difference in what order and how various features are displayed.  Lately though PayPal has been changing a lot of stuff, if you're a Sandbox user, you know.  Best to at least open a support ticket.   Sorry have not experienced your same scenario.  Just the normal things that happen when you revisit PayPal using previously stored cookies.

The one way to eliminate even seeing a PayPal checkout screen is to switch to Payments Pro.  Your customers never leave your website as you manage the checkout process.  At least you have an option.

Hi snowshoe,

And thanks for your answer!

I filed a ticket today and am curious of what happens now.

Can it be that Paypal pushes BML really hard into the US "market"? I am wondering, because we only see this strange PP behaviour with US customers (not with Europeans, not with Brazilians) ...

Cheers,
