Paypal attmepting to glean addional information

Supposedly, PayPal sent my email a message to download an attachment called form-update to provide personal information to PayPal like SS#, mother's maiden name and date of birth?  Message said subsequent PayPal transactions could be held up until information provided?

Was there links or attachments in the email? I could be wrong, but sure sounds like a spoof email. If there are attachments, most likely a fake email.

Best thing, I find, is to call them.
