My account shows a balance but when I attempt to transfer to bank Paypal says nothing to transfer

I have a substantial balance shown in Activity in my Paypal account due to a refund from a merchant.  I want to transfer that balance to my bank.  When I select Transfer to Bank the response is there's nothing to transfer meaning, I assume, that Paypal thinks my balance is zero.  What gives?

Is your balance zero? Does it just say you have funds in your activity history?

If so then how did you fund that paypal payment to the seller in the first place?

My detailed activity shows a balance of several hundred dollars. This is a refund from a merchant.  The payment to the merchant was originally via a credit card linked to my Paypal account.

If you funded the original paypal payment to the seller with a debit or credit card then it won't go back to your paypal balance.

Once marked as completed it will automatically go back to your bank account or credit card but takes up to a week to process through to the bank and a bit longer for a c.c (paypal say allow 30 days but I have never waited longer than a week for mine).
