Search not producing results

When I do a search transaction in "Activity" (with the magnifying glass tool) no matter how I search (email, last name etc) it does NOT find these transactions. I am looking to find these in my invoices sent and I KNOW they are there, becasue I can find them if I SLOWLY scroll through. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong to search?
