I was on a website that offered a service I was interested in. There were three options, two were "recurring payments" and the other appeared to be a one time payment. I went with that choice as I thought it was just one payment. Much to my surprise it was a "recurring payment". How can I stop that as I feel deceived?

Well first you have to go to your account on the website where you made the purchase, and you have to stop the recurring transaction. Note: not all transactions flagged as "recurring" by PayPal are actually recurring transactions. (I learned the hard way) STEAM for example, marks all transactions as recurring, or rather PayPal does, if the purchase was made with a card that was saved on the account. In other words, my son adds money to his STEAM wallet with my PayPal debit card...he makes a one-time purchase. 3 months later, he makes another one-time purchase with that same card that was saved to his STEAM account (if I didn't catch it when he did it) ...in PayPal ledger, it is reflected as a "recurring transaction" even though it is technically not recurring.
There are so many variables...whether you made purchase with logged in account, an app, or a PP debit card for example. PayPal on the phone is the most help though if you you can get through it on your own. I've been able to resove every sensitive situation within hours...they are VERY good. They have to be, if they want you to trust them with your money, and they do. I've been thinking of adding Google Wallet to my fiancial methods...but I just know that they will not be as responsible as PayPal is. Over 8-9 years, I think I"ve only had like 3 "situations" arise...and they have handled every single one fo them VERY quickly.
You do need to read T & C on the site where you made the purchase though...that is the governing rule. But if you need to break a tie betweent aht account and another, they can take care of that on the phone, There is a way online also...but they keep changing the interface, and I don't know the new online software like the old system. **bleep** mobile stuff is messing everything up...now you get less control because they are "trying to give you more" ...funny, but that's how it works really.
