Unconfirmed email address

I have a challenge with a transaction that was effected before l confirmed my email address on PayPal.The sender of the message is adamant that they sent the funds and even sent a proof of payment and l on the other hand haven't received anything.l was wondering what can be done in order reclaim this money?

If you failed to confirm the email address within 30 days of the payment being sent then it would time out and return to the sender.
