Seller offering partial refund but I believe they are being deceptive.

Hello,

I recently opened a dispute with a merchant after I received a defective item and the merchant refused a return when I reached out to them via their internal support. The seller offered a full refund if I returned the item, but is wanting me to pay full return shipping fees which are high. I disagreed with this and the merchant offered me a secondary option which was to give me a partial refund and not return the defective item. Due to the nature of the defect and the amount offered, I felt that this could be a fair and more efficient option. My only issue is that they said they already issued the partial refund but I don't see it in my paypal activity. When I inquired about this they said I won't see it until I close the case.

This sounds very suspicious to me and I wanted to confirm with the community if this seller is trying to pull a fast one and get me to close the case without actually resolving the issue.

Thank you.
