Scammer site had me log-in to PayPal, then redirected to friends and family.

A seemingly real website (I'm pretty tech savvy and did not see any red flags) had a legitimate looking checkout process, including a link to pay with PayPal. The Paypal log-in pop-up looked normal. I wasn't concentrating on the next step as I'm so used to paying with PayPal that I didn't notice I was redirected to the "friends and family" screen. I hit the "send" button before thinking, only realizing on the confirmation page what had happened. I knew instantly it was a scam because I was not redirected back to the original site to complete my transaction. I tried to contact PayPal immediately, but it's impossible. Automated call attendant said I would receive a text to chat, but I didn't receive one. There is no option on the payment itself to flag it as fraud. And chat said they would redirect me to someone to help, then ended the chat.

I'm so frustrated with PayPal (and myself). There is little to no direct customer support. Can you imagine a bank making you post on a user support forum instead of having a real person to call? I don't feel safe using them for transactions if it is so easy to fall into a scam, and I have zero recourse when it happens. I can't even see the contact information associated with the person who scammed me. Is there no vetting process to open an account? Has anyone been able to resolve an issue like this? Appreciate any help.

Sadly if you paid using the friends/family option then there is nothing paypal can do for you as you negated your buyer protection.
