Fraudulent Activity

I am done with PayPal.  Every time you ask customer service to do anything, they do nothing.  Last night, I received a fraudulent transaction posted to my account.  As soon as I received the Activity Alert from PayPal (that indicated the buyer's name & address in the Bronx) I jumped on the phone and asked PayPal to cancel the "pending" transaction.  I told them I do not know that person and certainly did not give them authorization to use my account.  What did PayPal do ... nothing, "you will have up to 45 days to deal with this after the "pending" is actually posted" blah, blah, blah.  I had tried to contact the vendor (RockAuto) and they had already shipped the items.  So, I had to cancel my credit card.

And, I removed all credit sources from my PayPal A/C.  Now, I will no longer use PayPal.

Hello @NoPalNoMore

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum. I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues reporting unauthorized activity on your account. It is correct that we cannot report a transaction as unauthorized until it the transaction has completed, but it shouldn't take 45 days for a transaction to complete. Normally, the merchant begins to capture the funds and complete the transaction within a few business days.

With that in mind, if you have reported this transaction with your credit card company already, we'd recommend following up with them regarding any refund. However, please don't forget to update your password and security questions on PayPal.

Good luck with any future transactions,

PayPal was notified in a manner timely enough they could have stopped the transaction.  Policies should be changed to deal with these issues,  instead of me having to notify my credit card company.

They can't cancel a PENDING transaction, you would need to open a dispute once the pending transaction was authorised.

Until then there is nothing to cancel as no transaction would have been made and it may never complete anyway.

If you were hacked then change your password asap.

Hey @CLNBCN1,

Thanks for the help @kernowlass! I understand your concern about the outcome of the dispute. As the dispute investigation goes entirely based on the tracking information for our case decisions, I recommend you to work with UPS to have them determine where the package was delivered. If they can supply you with a document that confirms it was delivered to a different address, you can request an appeal to the outcome of the case by reaching out to our team by clicking the contact us option at the bottom of PayPal page or send us a message through our Twitter(@AskPayPal) and Facebook page for additional assistance.

Best wishes!

Bindu

I agree.  I have used PayPal for a loooooong time.  No more, they are out of touch.  I had to cancel my credit card ... if only Paypal would have stood up to the task.

I disputed a charge on my account twice!        They sent me the UPS tracking information which was obviously fraudulent.       Five portable outside rocking chairs in no way can weight one pound.       And they had no picture proof that it was delivered to my house - ha - wonder why.       I showed Paypal the address was a run down trailer and by no means a business.     I provided emails to the site that went unanswered.      I provided pictures of the chairs from the website and what does PayPal do?    They closed my complaint saying the vendor provided proof of delivery.       No - no they didn't.        I have cameras on all four sides of my house and there was NO one at my house that day.         No picture showing delivery.      These people are getting away with stealing from me and I also am closing my PayPal.
