I received the following response from the supplier. However, if I close it and they don’t credit me I cannot open the case again. Is it correct to close the disput? Hi Andrew, We have verified the Return Tracking Number you provided and confirmed that the item was already been returned. Unfortunately, the merchant is unable to initiate the refund at this time due to the dispute you've filed with PayPal. PayPal placed the transaction on hold. Please close the dispute filed first, for the us to be able to process your refund request. To close a dispute or claim: Go to Resolution Centre. Select Open cases in the drop down menu and find the claim you wish to close. Click the Case ID link (e.g. PP-111-222-333) under the Case column. If the case is in the Dispute phase click Close Dispute If your case is in the Claim phase click Cancel this claim. Enter any comments in the comment box and continue to close your dispute or claim.

If you had to close a case to get a refund then it would be pointless opening one.
NEVER close a dispute / claim until you have a refund.
If the seller issued a refund then that would close the dispute automatically.
If he doesn't escalate to a claim.
Do not close it or he can ignore you and you can't open a second dispute OR re-open a closed one.
