Braintree gateway credit card payment security

Can somebody explain me please how is possible to pay with credit card without the password or 3D authentication? I have the Braintree gateway implementation which allows me to add card number and expiration date and I can pay. No other security. I dont understand it. If somebody stole my card he can easily pay with my card cause number and expiration date are on the card. Where is the security? Thank you.
