Pay in 4 charging me as well as the retailer?

Hi, I've made a purchase using PayPal's Pay in 4 for the first time, I was buying an item for approximately $480, I filled out the application and was approved, sent back to the checkout screen and all the info was auto-filled and I clicked the purchase button, I then go to my PayPal account to make sure everything went through, and I see a charge from pay in 4 for my first installment, but then above that I see a charge pending for the full amount of my pay in 4 purchase from the retailer. Is this normal? I'm currently waiting for customer support to get back to me, but obviously, I don't want to pay almost $1,000 for an item that is half that amount. This is the last thing I wanted to deal with this weekend...

This is a bit confusing and definitely not at all convenient like Klarna.

I've gotten in touch with PayPal and this is apparently normal!
