I'm unable to receive funds through PayPal, always get an error message saying that email is invalid

Have you confirmed your email address after adding it and what country are you in?

Sadly not, if you try and use another countries paypal account it would not work properly for you and would soon be limited.

What if I use the funds directly from PayPal? I don't need to withdraw it to my bank account

You can't RECEIVE funds into a sri lankan paypal account !!
